Last year I set some book goals, and so did my co-host.

  • Nerd Journey # 161 - Booking the Time to Read in 2022 Best Practices & General IT.
  • I'm still new to Remote Desktop Management Server but any help where to look would be greatly appreciated. One thing that is weird is that drive redirection also does not work on the RDMS server.

I have restarted the server multiple times also, still no luck. Since all the other servers are working, it shouldn't be a GPO issue. We have verified that all the Remote Desktop Management services are turned on for clipboard redirection and drive redirection. I have tried ending the process on rdpclip.exe and restarting it.

I did some research online but haven't came up with any answers since it seems Windows Server 2012 is new. I have verified that all the settings on the remote desktop such as turning on clipboard/drive redirection are both turned on and work for all other servers. I have tried through the console and through multiple logins including Domain Admins and no luck.

So the issue is isolated on the Terminal Server. I can copy/paste to all other servers on the networking including a Windows Server 2012 DC, 2008 R2 server, etc. We setup a new Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Management Server and got everything setup and working but for some reason we cannot copy and paste to the desktop/server. Since no one will actually log onto the servers & use the Dynamics shortcut, I just deleted it from my Session Hosts. We just installed new Window Server 2012 servers and migrated our applications and services over. As a further test, I put the shortcuts back, then tried again. I remembered that my problem started after I'd installed Dynamics on the Session Hosts so I deleted the shortcuts from both Session Hosts.Īfter I did that, the PowerShell command got me the list of programs available on my Session Hosts & the GUI completed populating the list of programs in about 5 seconds. The shortcut points to the network share on our accounting server where Dynamics runs. That program is MS Dynamics & it doesn't run locally on the Session Hosts. I was having the same problems (Retrieving list of RemoteApp Programs that are available for Publishing never completing (mine ran for 30 min & never did anything) & the PowerShell command failed w/ "The argument reason is null or empty." I was able to publish new apps using the "New-RDRemoteApp" command but didn't like that I couldn't do it via the GUI & couldn't get the list via PowerShell.Īfter a lot of researching & completely rebuilding my RemoteApps infrastructure (not in production yet & only 4 servers so not a huge task), I discovered that the problem was being caused by the shortcut for one program in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu on the Session Host servers. We have another 2012 R2 server similar to this that works fine. I don't have any GP's for RDS on the machine and local GP doesn't show any configured items.

Windows updates from Windows update are all installed and also have "recommended updates checked" and I am at a loss here.

I verified shortcuts do exist in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs Just hangs at "Retrieving list of RemoteApp Programs that are available for Publishing" never completes and no errors. The only thing I am not able to do is publish remote apps it seems.
